Founder profiles
Jamie Campbell
Originally from Kendal, Jamie started out at ATI Advanced Technology Industries in 1997, developing his expertise in microelectronics. In 1999 Jamie moved to Cipher Technology Warrington where he specialised in embedded systems: encryption, satellite tracking systems and telematics.
In 2000 Cipher was acquired by Mobile Fone Group and became Box Telematics. A year later, Jamie saw the opportunity to enter the games market as Playstation 2, with its similar architecture to embedded systems, had just been released. Jamie joined Rage in 2001 where he met d3t co-founder, Steve Powell. Following the closure of Rage, Jamie became a founder member at Juice Games, the company established by Colin Bell, Don Whiteford and Steve Powell, amongst others. In 2005 Juice won ‘Best New Studio’ at the Develop Awards. THQ subsequently acquired the company, making Juice THQ’s first internal European studio.
Both Steve and Jamie stayed with THQ working on a variety of major games and concepts, but releases stalled and projects were cancelled. The studio shipped Red Faction: Battlegrounds and Warhammer 40000 Killteam before finally closing its doors in 2011.

With his degree in IT and Computing bolstered by an MBA, including extensive research into the industry, Jamie already knew he wanted to set up independently. Jamie approached Steve about a collaboration and d3t came into being in July 2011. The order book was full at start up, so former THQ colleague and rising star Andy Booth, was asked to join d3t from day one. Andy has since become d3t’s Technical Director.
Jamie loves the challenge of solving technical problems and going on to add value to a project.

Stephen Powell
Graduating from Manchester University in Computer Science, Steve started work at Bolden James Communication Software in 1990, developing software for public sector bodies. Wanting to spread his creative wings, Steve spotted a job ad in the Northwich Guardian looking for people to ‘make games that fly’. Steve decided that was exactly what he wanted to do and went on to get the job.
Steve joined Digital Image Design in 1995 working on flight simulation EF2000 before taking the Lead Programmer role on the second game he’d ever worked on: F22. DID were bought out by Infogrames, a time when some of Steve’s colleagues left to form design house Evolution Studios.
Steve left Infogrames to join the new Rage Games Warrington studio in 1999. Rage produced GTC Africa and the critically acclaimed Lamborghini game. However, the studio closed in 2003 before Lamborghini could be released. It was at Rage Games that Steve met d3t co-founder, Jamie Campbell.

Following the closure of Rage, Steve became a founding member at Juice Games, an Acclaim Games development studio established by Colin Bell and Don Whiteford, amongst others.
A funding deal with Fund 4 Games enabled Juice to retain the ‘Juiced’ IP so despite the arrangement with Acclaim falling through, the successful ‘Juiced’ franchise was retained and published by THQ. THQ subsequently acquired the company, making Juice THQ’s first internal European studio.
Following the demise of THQ, Steve and Jamie went on to form d3t Ltd, specialising in work for hire software development. The company now employs 30 talented individuals and will be celebrating five successful years in July 2016.
Steve’s driving force is his love of advancing technology along with his commitment to providing exemplary customer service.
