    THE ROLE – SENIOR CHARACTER ARTIST

    The Senior Character Artist will play a key role in our growing Character Team. It its very much a hands-on role, creating beautiful Characters for our projects whilst also working together with the other d3t Character Artists, inspiring and motivating one another to create world class Characters. We work with very high-profile clients on amazing game titles and so the quality of the Character Art is critical to satisfying and retaining their loyalty.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Produce exceptional character models that are anatomically correct and are full of life and personality.
    • Accurately follow a pre-defined art direction or concepts to produce characters in varying art styles.
    • With a knowledge of advanced techniques, create both low and high poly, including heads, faces, clothing and hair and able to rapidly acquaint with new pipelines and processes.
    • Create clean and efficient topology ready for skinning for animation and author well laid out textures.
    • Work with Art and Animation Leads in helping to define clear visual goals, create best practice assets and help to oversee the Character Art Team quality, ensuring consistency between initial vision and final assets.
    • Work with Technical Artists to improve workflows and shaders, and ensure characters adhere to tech specifications and all work uses the most efficient footprint possible
    • Ensure work hits all memory and frame rate guides and comply to project guidelines in terms of naming conventions, texture layering structures, folders etc.
    • With a professional and organised approach, you adhere to schedules and promptly feedback concerns regarding any aspects of the project.
    • Ensuring the right tasks are tackled in the right order, updating Jira, communicating progress and helping to manage team deliverables.
    • Respond to art direction effectively and assist in both providing and implementing feedback.
    • Research into improved techniques, keep up-to-date with industry advancements and technologies and share knowledge with the rest of the Character Art Team.
    • Add to our library of tutorials, documents and technical guides to improve efficiency in the character art processes and be proactive in finding solutions to technical issues.
    • Self-driven, autonomous and confident, demonstrate responsibility for work quality and processes for both yourself and other members of the Art Team, actively contributing fresh ideas and encouraging the team.
    • Confident with motivating Character Artists, inspire colleagues to flourish and help promote a culture of collaborative innovation.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Excellent artistic ability, strong organic modelling skills and in-depth anatomical knowledge.
    • In depth understanding of current gen skin and hair shaders and ability to accurately capture facial subtleties.
    • High proficiency in Maya/Max, Z-Brush, Photoshop and Substance suite.
    • A recurrent top performer, always raising the bar to produce fine quality textures, demonstrating a high level of finesse.
    • In depth understanding of various tools and game engines used in current gen development.
    • Experience in real time hair, Marvellous Designer, cloth simulation set up and blendshape creation workflows.
    • Strong communication and organisation skills and confident working as part of a multidisciplinary Art Team.
    • Evidence of being an enthusiastic leader or role model whilst in the role of character artist, maintaining a positive outlook and identifying options to turn problems into solutions.
    • Practical and methodical approach to both technical and creative problem-solving and an ability to take art direction effectively.

    THE ROLE – LEAD UI ARTIST

    The Lead UI Artist is going to be a key part of our growing UI Team. This is very much a hands-on role creating graphics for projects, whilst also overseeing all d3t UI artwork, inspiring and motivating the team to create world class user interfaces. We work with very high-profile clients on amazing game titles and so the quality of the UI Artwork is critical to satisfying and retaining their loyalty.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for creating visually appealing and thoughtfully crafted UI interfaces, sympathetic with the overall art styles and setting the aesthetic benchmark, demonstrating a high bar of craft excellence.
    • Lead by example creating beautiful, highly polished icons, menus, buttons and front-end HUD graphics, for engaging and intuitive interfaces, going from wireframe prototypes and concepts, through to implementation in game, bug fixing and polishing.
    • Take a thoughtful approach to solving complex User Interface problems, in collaboration with other departments make the user experience intuitive and useful, concepting new ideas, exploring new techniques and refining the UI to enhance the player experience. 
    • Prototype multiple ideas and iterate to find the optimal solution for delivering an optimal UX flow and immersive consistent gaming experience.
    • Show creative leadership to the UI team, inspiring them to work to their potential and take pride in what they produce.
    • An empathetic mentor, you channel the talents of each of your team members, motivating them to reach their full potential and inspiring them to do their best work.
    • Instigate regular reviews of the UI artwork and assist in both providing and implementing feedback, to manage quality and ensure look and feel is on target ensuring consistency between initial vision and final assets.
    • Demonstrate responsibility for work quality and processes for both yourself and other members of the UI team, ensuring all the UI Artists have the appropriate reference and resources to complete their tasks, providing briefs, style guides and prototypes.
    • Help to establish and promote processes and pipelines, define budgets and create concise documentation of best practices, provide tutorials and technical guides to improve efficiency.
    • Ensure all UI artwork meets all technical constraints, have an awareness of memory usage, optimisation and the impact on frame rate and ensure guidelines are adhered to regarding naming conventions, texture layering structures, folders etc.
    • Support the team with resolving technical issues and fixing bugs.
    • Have a full understanding of the scope and complexity of the art work required on each of the projects and help with deciding the best allocation of resources.
    • Alongside production, help to establish priority of work, estimate timescales, schedule the art workload and monitor output.

    THE ROLE – SENIOR UI ARTIST

    The Senior UI Artist is a key part of our growing UI Team at d3t. Having an excellent eye for detail, we are looking for someone who can create world class User Interface graphics that support and enhance the gameplay experience. We work with very high-profile clients on amazing game titles and the quality of our UI artwork is critical to satisfying and retaining their loyalty.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create high quality 2D user interface graphical artwork, from wireframe prototypes and concepts, through to implementation in game, including bug fixing and polishing.
    • Assist with concepting new ideas, exploring new techniques, and refining the UI to enhance the player experience.
    • Following specified art direction and working in collaboration with other departments, create beautiful icons, menus, buttons and front-end HUD graphics, and assist in both providing and implementing feedback.
    • Work with the UI Lead in helping to define clear visual goals, create best practice artwork and help to oversee the UI Team quality, ensuring consistency between initial vision and final assets.
    • Ensure work meets all technical constraints, have an awareness of memory usage, optimisation, and the impact of artwork on frame rate.

    THE ROLE – QA TESTER

    We work with very high-profile clients on amazing game titles and so we are looking for an experienced QA Tester to deliver an excellent service within our team and for our clients.

    This role will be for a fixed term contract of 6 months with the potential to be extended beyond. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide continuous quality assurance support to the development team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
    • Identify, record, document and track defects along with highlighting any areas of risk to the development team.
    • Perform thorough integration testing of any defect resolutions and features.
    • Review requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback where required.
    • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases based on development milestones.

    THE DAILY LIFE OF A SENIOR PROGRAMMER AT d3t:

    • Looking at code reviews submitted by other team members
    • Rendering bugs with an OpenGL to DirectX port
    • Working on a memory allocator for a console title
    • Help junior coders working on other aspects of the title such as input, save games etc, and would be responsible for ensuring they had clear direction in the way they can tackle client projects

    PERSONAL SKILLS

    • Confident and able to communicate at all levels
    • Able to demonstrate a sense of reliability and responsibility
    • A can-do and flexible attitude
    • A keen interest in video games and programming
    • Ability and willingness to support junior programmers and other team members as required

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • At least 4 years’ experience working in a programming position
    • Experience shipping games or apps from inception to completion
    • Fluent in multiple programming languages including C/C++
    • A technical bias, with an interest in getting stuck-in to difficult problems every day
    • Experienced and confident working on low-level code in areas such as physics, rendering, memory management, networking etc.

    THE DAILY LIFE OF A GRAPHICS PROGRAMMER AT d3t:

    • Design and program graphics engine components and shaders for PC and next generation consoles.
    • Create clean, efficient and well tested code.
    • Participate in the full development cycle of console and PC games starting from basic prototypes through to release.
    • Collaborate with other engineers as well as game designers, artists and QA on a number of studio projects.
    • Additional responsibilities and projects may be assigned as and when required.

    PERSONAL SKILLS

    • We are looking for a confident individual with a can-do attitude and an ability to communicate at all levels.
    • You must be able to demonstrate a sense of reliability and responsibility within the workplace.
    • A passion for games and game development is a must, alongside an enthusiasm and interest in current render tech and lighting methods.
    • A self-motivated individual with excellent critical thinking skills and an eye for detail.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Strong knowledge of C/C++ programming languages.
    • Strong knowledge of HLSL/GLSL shader programming languages.
    • Experience in GPU debugging and graphics bug fixing.
    • Experience writing lighting shaders.
    • Experience of rendering hardware and implementing some modern rendering techniques e.g. screen-space post-processing effects, ambient occlusion, shadows, reflections, modern specular lighting reflectance models.
    • Excellent 3D math skills (linear algebra, vector math).
    • Deep knowledge and first-hand experience with modern graphics APIs (e.g. DirectX, OpenGL, Vulkan).
    • Degree in Computer Science and/or Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
    • Experience of working with large code base projects (2+ years).
    • Excellent written and spoken English.

    • Experience in GPU profiling and optimisation.
    • Experience working in a PBR material workflow and general understanding of texture authoring requirements.
