So, back in February we brought you news of the anonymous request that had been cropping up in our Staff Suggestions Box for over 2 years… ‘Please can we have a d3t llama?’ Our initial reaction was to say ‘NO, this is impossible’! But sometimes at d3t we are able to make the impossible happen and a couple of weeks ago we had a surprise lunchtime visitor.
Many thanks to Hillview Llamas in Frodsham for making our team’s dream come true!
Gualtiero Vercellotti joined the d3t team as a Junior Core Tech Programmer on 21st May 2018. Gualtiero tells us a bit more about himself…
Tell us about your background and experience prior to d3t?
I studied at University of the West of England – Games Technology.
Why d3t?
After participating in both Rising Star and Search for a Star and getting to the finals in both competitions I had already met d3t and knew about them. So when I was finishing University it was one of the main companies I applied for because, due to the wide variety of projects we work on, I’m not working on a single one and can get experience from a lot of different environments and tools.
What was the recruitment process like?
After the application I had to complete a programming test in 24 hours and it was really fun. Then I was called for an interview and after the first few questions about my background knowledge and experiences, we started just talking about programming in general and, compared to the other interviews I’ve done it was really relaxed and fun.
Tell us some interesting facts about yourself.
I’m a scuba diver, sailing instructor, skier and snowboarder even if since moving to England I didn’t have the chance to go skiing a lot.
My favourite quote is “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” – Evelyn Beatrice Hall.

Shariqua Wahid joined the d3t team in 2016 after studying a BSc Games Design degree at the University of Bolton and graduating with first class honours. Two years later Shariqua returned to the University of Bolton, to deliver one in a series of presentations about her work at d3t and her experiences within the industry.
Shariqua joined d3t as a QA Tester and has more recently diversified into design. Her presentation explores the history of programming and women’s role within it, covers the work that we do here at d3t and Shariqua also includes her own experiences of the industry, encouraging younger women to view it as a viable, dynamic career choice.
With the current skills shortage in evidence across the industry, we regard engaging with up-and-coming talent as a vital part of our work. Our internship programme has proved hugely popular and we take time to attend workshops, recruitment fairs and open days at universities throughout the north west and further afield.
Huge congratulations to Shariqua for stepping up to spread the word about the awesome work we undertake at d3t and the rewards of working in the industry.
The annual opportunity to inspire and be inspired, GDC is a huge event in the industry calendar, enabling us to share learning and network with industry insiders from across the globe.
This year’s event was also a stand-out as it marked our first year as part of the Keywords Group. It’s fantastic to be part of wider group of talented KWS studios and to be supported by the KWS Global Sales Team.
Despite a tricky start with snow delaying our flight, all four of us made it – making this our 6th consecutive year in attendance.
Networking always features high on our agenda and this year saw us undertake a total of 25 meetings with existing and potential clients. We have come away with some incredibly exciting opportunities on the horizon and in the words of Chief Brody, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat! ☺ ”. *
GDC wouldn’t be GDC without the celebration and showcasing of industry innovation. Unreal was absolutely everywhere and our stand-out tech highlights include:
Epic – Andy Serkis performs as fiction alien character Osiris Black
Putting our d3t philosophy of striving for excellence while having fun, we found time to take a bike ride across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. A breath-taking experience. And we also managed to attend the awesome Keywords party at the aptly named Keystone Bar in San Francisco.
GDC 2018 more than lived up to expectation and we are already looking forward to 2019’s event.
